Dr. Gabriel Akopian is a board-certified surgeon who specializes in the most advanced and minimally invasive surgical techniques used to treat colorectal disease. He takes pride in giving each patient individualized attention and being readily available for his patients during their treatment and recovery. Dr. Akopian has also integrated an enhanced recovery after surgery protocol into his practice, allowing patients to recover sooner and to return to normal activity as quickly as possible.
Beyond patient care, Dr. Akopian is passionate about resident education. He has been a clinical instructor for 15 years and now serves as the associate program director for Huntington Hospital’s general surgery residency program. Dr. Akopian is also active in research. He is a clinical scientist in the Huntington Medical Research Institutes (HMRI) colorectal program. Furthermore, he spends time mentoring the general surgery residents at Huntington Hospital for their own research projects, presentations, and publications. He has presented study findings at local and national medical meetings and has published manuscripts in numerous surgical journals.
